I am Legend

iamlegend_galleryfinal

The movie has its moments. I for one really liked the zombies in this. The ending is absolutely pathetic and makes no sense at all, but that is not the only problem.

The dark-seekers die with bullets but they seem to have absolutely no problem when they bang their heads against car windshields or fibreglass doors or ... hell, it seemed as if the zombies were actually enjoying banging their heads against the glass.

Electricity, running water, gas... everything been up and running for three years! wow.. talk about reserves.

Will getting trapped (I think the trap was too good for a supposedly stupid zombie to put up, but whatever), why doesn't the dark-seeker attack him? I mean he just sends of the dogs after him. Now we already know that the Zombie is faster than Will anyways. Will is also injured now. Why not go after him yourself?

I guess the zombie used up all the intelligence in setting up the trap and then didn't really know what to do next.

Compound 6 or something seemed to be working on animals (remember, Will yapping - the rat showing lowered aggression levels bla bla), well the question is - why didn't Will try that on his dog? He did make his final analysis that the cure worked for animals but not on humans. Now, unless whacko Will started believing that his dog was human, I think he should've used the cure on the dog.

The woman and the kid showing up just in the nick of time to save Will from the dark-seekers .. err.. sorry, but really doesn't make sense. Should have really put in some work into that part. I mean, how the hell did they just show up there. and why were they waiting for Will's car to toss over, before they decided to make an entrance? And please do tell us how the woman fought off a mob of zombies by herself?

The movie is watchable. Even enjoyable if you don't think too much.

Firefox - half a billion downloads

Firefox has managed to hit over 500 million users all over the world. Well done!

They are celebrating now by raising funds for 500 million grains of rice, which they will give away to poverty stricken nations.

Text from their site:

"

Since we have reached the milestone, it is time to flock to freerice.com and attempt to push the days total over 1/2 billion. This is just a foreshadow to where one day Firefox will be. Food for thought, uh, better yet, Food for Lives; if we reach 500 million grains of rice, that's a direct contribution in feeding 25,000 people for one day! Donate now, http://freerice.com

Alien vs Predator - Requiem

avpr_galleryposter

Disappointed, terrible, horrible, stupid.

The Predalien (Half Predator, half Alien) is a major disappointment. The human characters in the movie make the movie even worse. Especially towards the end of the movie. Running behind - screaming and firing away at the Predator and/or an Alien because your girlfriend died and your brother got attacked, well how about first expressing a bit of shock at looking at the creatures? That scene was so lame.

A woman's husband was gobbled up by an Alien - No reaction from the woman. Her daughter doesn't give a shit either. hmm, kids eh.

An Alien attacks this sissy idiot and he is injured! INJURED! WTF IS THIS!

The movie is just too lame.

You Give Love - A Bad Name

Shot through the heart, and you're to blame
darling, you give love - a bad name.

An angel's smile - is what you sell
you promise me heaven and put me through hell.
chains of love got a hold on me
when passion's a prison - you can't break free.

oh! you're a loaded gun
oh! there's no-where to run
no one can save me, the damage is done!

Shot through the heart, and you're to blame
you give love - a bad name
i play my part, you play your game
you give love a bad name.

Paint your smile on your lips
blood red nails on your fingertips.
a school boy's dream, you act so shy
your very first kiss was your first kiss goodbye.

whoa! you're a loaded gun
whoa! there's no-where to run
no one can save me the damage is done.

Shot through the heart, and you're to blame
you give love - a bad name
i play my part, you play your game
you give love a bad name.
you give love...

Move out of the way

Fm99.7 breakfast show host Linda has a problem with drivers who drive fast and come too close to the car if the car in front is not giving way.

I didn't hear this (I don't listen to the breakfast show, I find it annoying). But my friend did (thank you Jonyboy) and narrated the whole thing, including Linda's statement:

"

if the authorities don't do anything about this soon, then the drivers will be forced to take matters into their own hands.

My view on the matter - errr.. and do what exactly? hook up cruise missiles in the trunk and fire away when there is someone behind you? or the oil slick thing like the one in KITT or some bond car?!

I flash lights to get the slower vehicles out of my way, and at times, probably inch too close to the car in front as well. At the same time, there have been times when the same has happened to me too. Just today morning a Nissan z350 was trailing right behind my car. As soon as I found an opening, I did change lanes and give way to the speeding z350.

Some cars are fast and some drivers can drive the car close to its full potential. Perhaps they don't care about being fined. Move out of the way. It is just that simple.

Perhaps what Linda has failed to notice is that these drivers who can manage to drive fast, do start to flash lights from a distance itself, asking to be let through. It's not like the cars are teleporting or magically appearing behind your bumper. Now why can't you just move into the other lane? If you can't keep up with the speed, at least get out of the way!

I agree - not everyone is civil on the roads and many drivers lack basic road sense (not restricted JUST to Kuwait). But, if one can drive fast and doesn't give a shit about being fined - why the hell can't a slow driver just move into the next lane and let this car through.

Apparently, Linda thinks she is the only one in Kuwait who knows how to drive. This isn't the first time she has commented on such issues. Come to think of it, I think I stopped listening to the breakfast show because of her yapping. Sure the songs were getting repetitive too and it wasn't exactly my type of music, but I think the major reason was her yapping.

The Ten

Crap, not funny, senseless, complete waste of time. Please don't watch.

Salary increase for Kuwaitis

No, I don't have a problem with it.

Had an interesting discussion today that stemmed out of this simple headline. Well, I am not going to get into that, but just going to share my views.

Usually, such a news is followed by a load of complaints/remarks from the EXAPTRIATE's (don't know why they can't just use terms like non-Kuwaitis or foreigners, but whatever), that why give them the raise, how long are you going to pamper them, we do most of the work, we work harder, longer, better - bla bla bla.

I am sure most of us have heard that and perhaps most of us have said that too. Today was refreshing, because today was one of those rare occasions when I encountered another view, similar to mine, being shared by someone.

The statement made was:

"

as for the salary hike for q8is.............hats off to their govt for taking care of their citizens

(Thank you Pride)

My view has always been - Wouldn't one be happy if your government (whatever country it may be) would - write off your loans? give you land to build your house? provide you with social security benefits? see to it that you get a reasonable stipend? etc etc..

Wouldn't you like such a government? Regardless of whatever the governments motive may be. It could be anything from ensuring re-election or keeping your mouth shut or just taking care of citizens.

It is actually very simple, if you have such a big problem with someone else getting paid more than you, or you feel that your contribution is not being recognized, well get up and talk about it.. not to me or your friends, talk to your management. Don't crib about it on a public forum, take it up with your boss.

If one thinks that they can get a better offer elsewhere, well by all means - please take it up. There is nothing wrong with wanting to make more money. If you have the opportunity, why don't you take it? It's not like the companies are practicing bonded-labor over here.

You joined up here because this seemed like a good opportunity. Times change, I agree. What seemed like a good opportunity then, might not seem so good now. Well look for something better. Cribbing about it is definitely not going to help.

Some people don't like the way they are treated by the citizens. hmm. An individual commented, that the citizens treat the non-Kuwaiti employees or staff as their servants. I do feel sorry for such people, but if you behave like one, you are treated like one. If you let people walk all over you, they will. Be it Kuwaitis or non-Kuwaitis.

Dikhaawon pe mat jaao.. apni akal ladaao (bakwaas karne se pehle ek baar soch liya karo - aur ye har baat pe rona dhona band karo.)

Update: Seems like there will be a KD 50 increase for all non-Kuwaitis, working in the public sector, as well.

Hitman

hitman_teaserbig

The game is absolutely brilliant. The movie.. leaves a lot to be desired. The action sequences aren't bad. But the movie lacks a lot.

Major disappointment from the actors. Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47 - WRONG CHOICE. Robert Knepper is horrible as a Russian and he can't pull it off. Even more disappointed because I thought he was brilliant in Prison Break (at least the first two seasons).

Henry Ian Cusick (plays Desmond in Lost)-Again, seems a little too fake as a Russian.

The movie is watchable, but for me, it was extremely disappointing. The movie could have been (and SHOULD HAVE BEEN) so much better.

Built-in Cam doesn't work (HP - Vista)

Well I don't know if this solution will work for everyone, but it did work for me.

I am using an HP Tablet, running Windows Vista. The other day I needed to use the cam, and it wouldn't work. MSN Messenger insisted that there was no cam connected. I tried restarting the tablet, re-installing the driver, etc etc. Nothing worked. Looked up the problem on the net, and apparently there are others who are experiencing the similar issues. This is what finally worked for me:

Downloaded WinFlash and System Bios from the HP Website and updated my tablet (will take some time and the system will shutdown). Then, downloaded the drivers for the HP Webcam. I ran the executable file for the webcam driver. Once it was installed, I uninstalled the webcam from the Device Manager and restarted the tablet.

It detected the cam, installed it and now it is working fine.

The Golden Compass

The ice bears were cool. That's about it, for me anyways. Well I didn't bother to watch the last 30 minutes or so. Just not interesting enough for me.

American Gangster

americangangster_gallerytheatrical

It is good. It is watchable. But then again, I usually like most mob movies.

It could have been so much better though. It didn't really have to be so slow either. I am not complaining about the length of the movie (which was about 2 Hrs and 55 Mins), I am complaining about the pace. Hell, I probably wouldn't mind if the movie was a bit longer, as long as it was paced better - but that's me (and it is 1:49 am. and I have absolutely nothing to do).

If you liked The Godfather and the Goodfellas, chances are you won't like this one much. In my opinion, the makers have tried hard to make a movie that could match up to the likes of The Godfather, and have managed to fail. Like I said, it is watchable.

So Far Away - Nickelback

Great song. (video is clips from Pride and Prejudice.)

this time, this place - misused, mistakes
too long, too late
who was I to make you wait
just one chance- just one breath
just in case there's just one left
because you know, you know, you know

I love you
I have loved you all along
and I miss you
been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me and you'll never go
stop breathing if I don't see you anymore

on my knees, I'll ask
last chance for one last dance
because with you, I'd withstand
all of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
give anything but I won't give up
because you know, you know, you know

I love you
I have loved you all along
and I miss you
been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
stop breathing if I don't see you anymore

so far away
far away for far too long
so far away
been far away for far too long
but you know, you know, you know

all I wanted
I wanted you to stay
because I needed
I need to hear you say:

that I love you
I have loved you all along
and I forgive you
for being away for far too long
so keep breathing
because I'm not leaving you anymore
believe it
hold on to me and never let me go

keep breathing
because I'm not leaving you anymore
believe it
hold on to me...never let me go
hold on to me...never let me go
hold on to me...never let me go

bheegegi jab jab raat suhaani - aag lagayegi rut masataani
tuhi bataa koi kaise jiyegaa
dil ke maaron ko, dil ke maalik - thhokar lagaakar chal diye

ruthe rahenge aap jo hum se
mar jaayenge hum bhi kasam se

sunn le haath chhodane se pahle
jaan humaari, naam pe tere - jaayegi ek din dilbar mere

Fishing by phone - Japan

ippon_tsuri

Ok, so this is how it works, you play the game on your cell phone. Try to catch a fish (in the game), if you manage to do that, then you HAVE A CHANCE of a supplier actually delivering fish to your door-step.

The game is open to Fukuoka-area NTT DoCoMo users who register at the Ippon Zuri site and pre-pay for the games (1,000 yen for 3 games - roughly KWD 2.600) using Edy electronic money.

"

Game play is simple: players use the phone keys to cast bait to promising-looking fish in the game’s virtual waters, which include sea bream, crab, and other seasonal fish. When a fish takes the bait, the player is sent to a slot machine screen where, if luck prevails and 3 numbers line up appropriately, the virtual fish is hooked and reeled in. A message is then relayed to the wholesaler, who picks up the real-world equivalent from the local seafood market and delivers it, whole and raw, to the player’s doorstep.

Pal pal dil ke paas - tum rehti ho

pal pal dil ke paas - tum rehti ho
jeevan meethi pyaas - yeh kehti ho
pal pal dil ke paas tum rehti ho

har shaam aankhon par - tera aanchal lehraye
har raat yaadon ki - baarat le aaye

main saans leta hoon - teri khushboo aati hai
ek mehka mehka sa - paighaam laati hai
meri dil ki dhadkan bhi - tere geet gaati hai
pal pal…

kal tujhko dekha tha – maine apne aangan mein
jaise keh rahi thi tum – mujhe baandh lo bandhan mein

ye kaisa rishta hai – ye kaise sapne hain
baigaane hokar bhi – kyon lagte apne hain
main soch mein rehta hoon – darr darr ke kehta hoon
pal pal…

tum sochogi kyon itna - main tumse pyaar karoon
tum samjhogi deewana - main bhi iqraar karoon

dewaanon ki yeh baatein - deewane jaante hain
jalne mei kya mazaa hai - parwaane jaante hain
tum yunhi jalate rehna - aa aakar khwaabon mein
pal pal...

Phone with a built in optical drive

spice-movie-phone-1

The phone goes on sale in India later this year. Basically the phone has a disc drive (like the PSP). Reports suggest that the disc can store a 2.5 Hour movie. Spice is reportedly making deals with the studios to release 1000's of bollywood movies onto these mini discs.

"

The phone has a 2.8-inch screen, and its headphone jack doubles as a TV-Out port for connecting to a big-screen TV. But it's that optical drive that makes it stand out - you slot the tiny discs into a tray that pops out from the back of the phone - much like loading UMDs into a PSP

D:Scribe - SMS & Email Pen

dscribe

Cool concept.

"

D:Scribe is a digital fountain pen that allows users to send SMS and email messages from paper. Just write out the message and circle the person’s name to send. This does away with a keypad and allows you to focus on communicating in a more personal way from anywhere as long as you have a bluetooth enabled phone and a surface to write on. The pen also records everything you write which can be accessed on a computer. Of course for the creative peeps, if writing doesn’t suit your fancy, the D:Scribe also works with genius and not so genius drawings of brilliance.

The Brave One

thebraveone_bigreleaseposter

I have the movie playing right now. I am 1 hr 15 minutes into this movie and I have been asking myself for the past 20 minutes why haven't I switched it off.

Jodie Foster - I liked her a bit in Panic Room. I think that's about it (no, I didn't like her in Silence of the Lambs, that was Anthony Hopkins all the way). I hated her in Flight Plan. Wasn't sure if I hated her more or the movie. And now this...

The interview scene with the cop, just downright stupid, That was perhaps the moment I decided that there is no way I can say anything nice about this movie. There is so much nonsense in this movie. I was reading some of the online reviews. I am shocked. I guess I just have a very different taste.

Well if someone liked it, cool. Happy for you mate. At least you didn't feel like it was a waste of time.

Ok.. thought about it, can't make myself watch this trash anymore.

Over You - Chris Daughtry

Chris Daughtry - Very talented but ends up getting chucked out of American Idol (Idiot) - fifth season - 2006 - and yet people think American Idol is about talent! That year's winner was Taylor Hicks. Well, to each his own, I like this song, just thought of sharing it. And, in my opinion - Daughtry is a lot lot better than Hicks.

Don't know how people would interpret the video (watch it till the end). This song should have had a better video.

Now that it's all said and done,
I can't believe you were the one
to build me up and tear me down,
like an old abandoned house.

What you said when you left
just left me cold and out of breath.
I fell too far, was in way too deep.
guess I let you get the best of me.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running
a long, long time ago.
and I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
more than you, more than you know.

I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.

and now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years
putting my heart back together.
because the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.

You took a hammer to these walls,
dragged the memories down the hall,
packed your bags and walked away.
there was nothing I could say.

and when you slammed the front door shut,
a lot of others opened up,
so did my eyes so I could see
that you never were the best for me.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running
a long, long time ago.
and I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
more than you, more than you know.

I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.

and now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years
putting my heart back together.
because the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.

Well, I never saw it coming.
I should've started running

and I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
more than you, more than you know.

Well, I never saw it coming.

I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.

and now I'm picking up the pieces.
I'm spending all of these years
putting my heart back together.

Well I'm putting my heart back together,
because I got over you.
well I got over you.
I got over you.
because the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.

Live-in OR Marriage - The discussion continues

marriage-marriage-b0000evwxk For any relationship to work one has to put an effort - be it Live-in or Marriage.

Some individuals think that people don't put in an effort - or as much an effort for a live-in. Well that is their view - Cool.

I look at it this way:

  • If two people want to make a relationship work, they will put in an effort - be it Live-in or a Marriage.
  • If one of them is not interested in making it work -s/he won't put in an effort - be it Live-in or a Marriage.

In the "Live-in OR Marriage" argument, I give more importance to the individuals in question as opposed to the institution or arrangement that they chose. (There are people who give more importance to the arrangement/the set-up and conveniently ignore the human factor - While discussing at least).

And that means (in my view) - if two people want to make it work, there is no binding or no necessity that they should marry. If they are willing to make it work - marriage or no marriage - is NOT going to change the fact that they will try to make it work. They may marry if they want to, but if they choose not to - there is nothing wrong with it either.

I am not saying marriage is wrong/bad. All I am saying is that it is not a necessity. Which is my opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.I am not saying marriages don't work. I am just saying marriage should not be viewed as a necessity.

Things can go wrong in a marriage, things can go wrong in a live-in too. The chances of that happening are dependent on the individuals involved and NOT on the choice between marriage or Live-in (which some people seem to forget when they are discussing the topic).

The same way, I don't think it is imperative to go to church or temple or whatever to show that you have faith or to pray. You can do that anywhere. That doesn't mean that I think going to a church or temple or whatever is wrong/bad. There are people who would like to do it that way, and there are people who wouldn't want to do it that way.

It is a choice, NOT a necessity.

Am I opposed to marriage? hmm - I prefer a Live-in. BUT - if I were to be in love with someone - want to spend my life with- AND IF SHE INSISTS that she will be with me only if we get married, then of course I would make the choice to marry her (definitely after first sharing my view - on the subject, with her).

My point is, if you do ANYTHING, with the view that you have to do it, well it is not going to turn out as good as it would've if you had made a CHOICE to do it.

Someone I know (Thank you Pride) - shared an interesting point which I would like to quote here:

marriage or live in is a choice every couple makes, and either does not guarantee fidelity or doesn't make one relationship better than the other..........

both kinds require a lot of work,in fact i feel live ins work harder at keeping it going because there is no force or compulsion to stay together yet its a choice they make and continue

Qurbaton mein bhi judaai ke zamaane maange

Ahmed Faraz...

qurbaton mein bhi judaai ke zamaane maange
dil vo bemehar ki rone ke bahaane maange

apna ye haal ke jee haar chuke lut bhi chuke
aur muhabbat vahi andaaz puraane maange

hum na hote to kissi aur ke charche hote
khalqat-e-shahar to kahne ko fasaane maange

dil kissi haal pe maane hi nahin jaan-e-'Faraz'
mil gaye tum bhi to kya aur na jaane maange

My Logic

Coin toss. Flipping it ten times and getting 10 heads in a row - the odds for this happening is about 1 in 1024 - 1 in 2^10 - (I might be wrong, I haven't done probability/permutation/combination for over 10 years.. but the logic is pretty much the same.. perhaps the number might be wrong.. but the logic applies)

Yes it is one in a thousand -but THERE IS A CHANCE! It is IM-probable BUT NOT impossible.

Same way, there are other things, that might be MASSIVELY IMPROBABLE - but not DEFINITELY IMPOSSIBLE.

So the logic is - if I try hard enough, if I am willing to exhaust all probabilities, then there is a chance that THAT ONE instance where EVERYTHING IS SUPPOSED TO FALL INTO PLACE (mathematically and logically) will eventually happen.

Build-to-order Cellphone

"

A company called zzzPhone offers cell phone handsets that you can customize during your order on their Web site -- just like you do when buying a PC from Dell. You choose a "base model" and color, then hand-pick components like GPS, high-rez camera or additional storage.

Back-up Battery for your Cell phone

img10063443944

"

This little cell phone strap from Strap-Ya is actually a small solar cell that can store energy and charge your phone. Smart! It can be charged up to 500 times--and if it's cloudy, three hours on an AC adapter will give you a backup battery anyway. Comes out Feb 9th (in Japan).

Life sucks

Sometimes, it's just easier (and better) to be a prick. That way, when shit happens, you can at least console yourself by saying that you deserved it.

kabhi kabhi yuun bhi humne apne jee ko bahlaayaa hai
jin baaton ko khud nahin samjhe - auron ko samjhaayaa hai

Pilots get their own in-flight entertainment

Content might be offensive to some. Viewer discretion is advised. (in simpler words - the stewardess strips for the pilot)

I don't know if this is a real plane, or a real stewardess.

Fake Bush, but just as funny
