Leaves Of Grass

New Picture

Loved it!

Nice, simple, refreshing. I would have definitely liked it better if the guy wasn’t from Oklahoma (The accent is just too much for me). But I enjoyed watching every minute of this film.

Lark Up – Wake Up With A Silent Alarm

New Picture

Interesting…

The Lark Up app is installed on the iPhone and the wrist strap is paired with the iPhone over Bluetooth. When the set alarm goes off, the band ‘vibrates’ on your wrist and wakes you up.

CWG – Delhi Is Ready (??!!)

New Picture (1)

New Picture

The workers weren’t allowed to use the toilets in the residential towers, so we now have the staff urinating on the DESIGNER walls. Shaabaash.

Link

And of course there were even more interesting updates highlighting just how ‘ready’ things were:

Lalit bhaiya, are these issues also a ‘matter of perception’? If yes, then I guess you will be in the minority of people who would be fine with urinating against the wall or snakes slithering across the rooms or furniture collapsing. I pity the guests visiting your house.

Bing Rewards – Microsoft Bribes Users To Use Bing

New Picture

Well, that’s one way to get users interested.

Sign up for the Bing Rewards Preview, take advantage of offers to earn credits and then redeem those credits for rewards. Offers may include searching on Bing, setting your homepage to Bing or trying out new features of Bing. Once you have enough credits to redeem for a reward, access the Redemption Center to select from a wide variety of rewards. Shipping is free!

Link

Something interesting reported on Gizmodo:

The easiest reward to get is Microsoft points, which you can use for Xbox Live or Zune. For signing up and installing the Bing bar (compatible with IE and maaaaybe Firefox), you get 250 points. 100 Bing points translates into 100 Microsoft points, which in turn translates into $1.25.

The bad part about those Microsoft points is that they're going to send those to you in the mail instead of giving you a download code to enter into your Xbox account.

Why they're doing it this way—because the card just has a damn download code on it anyway—is beyond me

Merlin – Season 2

merlin_season_2

Yawn…. Nautanki.

Season 1 had started off ok, but it got a bit err.. boring towards the end. Came across Season 2 and decided to give it a shot. Season 2 – Downloaded, Watched and Deleted.

As it turns out, Uther just gets more irritating with every episode. So does the entire series. Too many holes in the storyline and way too much stupidity from the characters. Seemed more like a soap opera and I have limits to how much drama I can tolerate. Ended up scanning through most of the episodes.

Lack of eye candy didn’t help either.
Morgana (Katie McGrath) – tolerable, at best.
Gwen (Angel Coulby) – not my type.
Morgause (Emilia Fox) – yuckh. And it’s not just the hair.

Will wait till the third season is completed and then will Fast Forward through that as well (I believe 2 episodes have already been aired)

VIVA KWD 1 Offer

166474465

Err… would be nice if there were ‘SOME’ details.

We’re The BlackBerry Boys (??!!)

In my opinion, Vodafone India really fucked up with this one. Makes me want to throw away my BlackBerry and never admit that I had one!

Lots of people saying it’s an awesome ad. I HATE IT. Can’t figure out WHY anyone would pay for such a shitty campaign. Reminds me of the tele tubbies nonsense (Shoot me.. shoot me NOW).

Yes, the concept is clear – BlackBerry is no longer JUST a business phone. I get that. But COME ON! This ad is just sad, pathetic, desperate and so so so gay!!

There has to be a better way of portraying that the device is not just a business phone. Seriously BOYS!!

JFTR – Office guys: ‘We are so very very clever’ (oh please) WTF!!!

iPhone Case – With QWERTY Flip Out!

I like the idea.

A wireless keyboard that pairs with the iPhone over Bluetooth and voila, type away. As much as I like the idea, am not too sure about the design. But hey, it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

Dropbox For BlackBerry - Finally

 blackberry_splash

Downloading it now.

OTA: www.dropbox.com/blackberry/download

Update:

Installed on my 9700. It runs, but.. err.. doesn’t really seem to be doing much. Can’t do anything after signing in.

Perhaps THIS version isn’t compatible with all devices (would be nice if it was mentioned somewhere), or may be I did something wrong somewhere.

Update 2:

Apparently, the application acts up if your Dropbox is empty. If you have even one file in it, it seems to work just fine.

Matter Of Perception ??!!

untitled[2]

OC secretary-general Lalit Bhanot dismissed the complaints about sanitary conditions in the Village as "minor", saying, "For us and for you, it is clean. But they (the foreign countries) have a different standard of cleanliness. It is a matter of difference in perception."

Link

Lalit bhaiya - Clean is clean. Filth is filth. Doesn't matter what country you are from. If you are a shitty person in Scotland, you will be a shitty person in India as well. Once a chutiya, always a chutiya.

So - bakwaas band kar, pick up the mop and get to work.

In my opinion - the best thing would be for the CGF to call off the games. As it is there are reports of athletes withdrawing from the games. Wouldn’t really make that much of a difference.

Why not call it off and rename it to Corrupt Wealth Games and let Kalmadi and Bhanot compete amongst themselves as to who can come up with more crappy explanations for what happened to IRS 7,000 Crores.

Two And A Half Men – Season 1-7

Two-and-a-Half-Men

Done with Seasons 1-7.

Nice show. Some of my friends think the show is err… inappropriate (prudes!!). I find it hilarious and it has just the right amount of eye candy for me. Not too much, not too less.

Season 8 premiered on 20-09-10. Downloaded the first episode but will wait till I have a few more episodes before I start off with Season 8.

There are two characters I hate the most:

Berta (Conchata Ferell) – I find her extremely annoying.
Chelsea (Jennifer Taylor) – I don’t get her. She is definitely good to look at, but I just don’t get her.

Surprisingly, I don’t have that much of a problem with Judith (Marin Hinkle). I don’t like the character, but I don’t hate her as much.

My favourite character (other than Charlie, of course) is Evelyn Harper (Holland Taylor). Simply put, she is just too cool.

The CWG Village – Someone Should Get Craig Hunter To Comment Now

 untitled

CWG village better than Beijing: England Chef de Mission

This is what Craig Hunter reportedly said on 16-09-10:

  • The Commonwealth Games Village here is better than the Beijing Olympics.
  • Every Games Village has progressed and this one sets a new standard.
  • Even the training facilities are wonderful.

Now, some headlines from 21-09-10:

Commonwealth Games Village UNLIVEABLE, complain four countries
Games in jeopardy from poor facilities: Kiwi officials
CGF asks India to fix condition of Games Village immediately

Dave Currie, the Kiwi Chef de Mission says:

  • The way things are looking, it's not up to scratch.
  • The reality is that if the village is not ready and athletes can't come, the implications are that it's not going to happen.
  • Athletes had been allocated new accommodation within the village after inspections found their original tower block was unacceptable due to lack of cleanliness and poor facilities.

Commonwealth Games Federation president Michael Fennell says:

  • Many issues remain unresolved and as such last night I wrote to the Indian Cabinet Secretary, expressing my great concern with the preparedness of the Athletes Village.
  • The condition of the residential zone has shocked the majority of CGAs that are in Delhi.
  • The CGF has asked the Cabinet Secretary to immediately deploy the necessary resources to fix all the outstanding issues to an acceptable level.
  • Many nations that have already sent their advanced parties to set up within the Village have made it abundantly clear that, as of the afternoon of September 20, the Commonwealth Games Village is seriously compromised.

Four countries find the village totally crap. England however says it sets a new standard (Honestly, when I read ‘Commonwealth Games Village here is better than the Beijing Olympics’ I rolled my eyes. Some things are just too hard to believe).

There is a possibility that the English players were given a better block in the village. However, more likely the British delegation got a taste of Delhi’s corruption curry and sent in a favourable report.

I would really be interested to read what Craig Hunter has to say NOW, after four countries have complained about the VILLAGE.

The House - Danielle Steel

n182824

Typical Danielle Steel book. A good read on a lazy day.

Had a bit of a problem with the elaborate explanations about Sarah’s feelings being repeated every few pages. Also hated the parts about Sarah’s trip to Europe where she tries to find more details about her Great Grandmother.

I am all for plans working out and trips not going to waste, but I would have preferred if she found the information from libraries or newspaper articles or some old records - as opposed to having a chance run into the new owner of the chateau who has an old grandmother or great grandmother with an excellent memory, who worked in the chateau ages ago.

A bit too much of a stretch for me.

Barring that, like I said – the book is a good read for a lazy day.

Let Me Google That For You

New Picture

Ever get tired of people asking you questions which could easily be answered were one to do a Google search? Well, a few people I know happen to be so lazy that they simply refuse to do a search.

Instead of yelling “Google it, you moron”, I now send them a link generated from www.lmgtfy.com

Try it out. I find it cool, and gets the message across. Basically you go to lmgtfy and type out the search query. The site will generate a link. Copy that link and send it to the person who had asked the query and was too lazy to search himself.

What s/he gets on clicking the link:

A step by step demonstration on how the person could have just used Google - ending with the search results being displayed.

Example: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=LordRaj

Note: You don’t necessarily have to go to lmgtfy to generate the link. You could simply type out the link yourself by sticking to the format/scheme i.e. - “http://lmgtfy.com/?q=(Search Query)” and that would work just as well.

Biometric Wallet

Biometric_wallet_background_ 022

  • ‘Activates’ with the touch of owner’s fingertip.
  • Pairs with your mobile via Bluetooth and alerts if the wallet is too far from the mobile.

Interesting.

Wouldn’t be pushing too much to have it include GPS positioning as well. I mean, if I were to lose my Biometric Wallet, I would like to get it back.

Slim chance of anyone wanting to return it, but even if they did - how would they know who it belongs to or how to reach the owner? They can’t open the wallet and check up on the ID’s anyway.

Paste Text Only – Google Chrome

CTRL+SHIFT+V - Paste text from a webpage without the formatting of the source.

Has this ever happened to you? You're writing an email online and you try to copy some text from a webpage. But when you paste it in, you get all the original fonts, colors, and spacing. "Wait!" you say, "I just wanted the text!"

This happened to us so many times while building Google Chrome that we added a special shortcut to do just that. Alongside the common Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut for "paste", Google Chrome supports a similar shortcut, Ctrl-Shift-V, for "paste as plain text". (And it’s Command-Shift-Option-V on a Mac.)

IE9 BETA Available For Download

download-ie9

Vista and Windows 7

Link (for those who might be curious).

Some extremely positive reviews from Engadget, Wired and Computer World. Read bits and pieces and they have some good things to say about Microsoft.

I haven’t bothered with IE9, and I don’t think I will. Just thought I would put it up here, in case anyone is interested.

I am using Windows at work (not out of choice). But that’s XP (it took 2 Service Packs to finally get it right and it’s the only one that seems to work). If there was an IE9 for XP, I just might have given it a shot on my office PC. Ummm.. yeah, may be I would.

At home, well I do have a couple of laptops running Vista but then.. err, I don’t really use them much. Their primary purpose, as of now is - External Storage Devices with LCD.

I do have one laptop running Windows 7 too, but … why would I bother using Windows when I have a Mac.

Man Tries To Rob A Bank, Applies For Loan Instead!

And obviously gets arrested.

WASTONVILLE - A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he walked into a Watsonville bank, said he had a bomb in his backpack and demanded $2,000 so he could pay his friend's rent, police reported.

But when Mark Smith, 59, allegedly tried to rob the bank, the bank manager suggested that what he actually needed to do was take out a loan, and she had him sit down while she said she was going to retrieve the loan paperwork. Instead, she called 911, according to Assistant District Attorney Dave Genochio.

Come on, seriously - just HOW stupid can you be!?

Zain Out Of Micro Sim Stock

Microsim

Got this from Some Contrast. Pretty sure that those interested would already have the information. The reason for me putting up this post is:

this code will help you in the future which is, as soon as the Micro SIM was available in ZAIN branches you could visit ZAIN branches and replace your normal SIM for Micro SIM for Free.

Considering that this is an official communication, the least ZAIN could have done was have someone proofread it before sending it out.

Track Your Vehicle Via SMS / Voice Call

Car owners can now track if their vehicle is being used by others without their permission and locate its movement thanks to 'Tcop', a security system that enables two-way communication between the car and its owner.

Tcop device fitted onto the car enables an owner to be alerted of an intrusion or theft through an SMS who could then trigger a burglar siren by sending back an SMS to the device.

The device could also through an SMS, alert the owner if someone in his family or otherwise was using his car without his permission through an ignition alert. Parents could keep tab on the car being used by minor children or others.

Link

Nothing new about it. Ever heard of WebTech Wireless? It would seem that a lot of people haven’t.

Sending off an alert via SMS/Phone call err.. ahem. Well considering that all the major work had already been done by others YEARS ago, what exactly did the people at Tcop actually do? Shove in a SIM card and have it shoot off text messages? That’s all it takes to make a headline?

We have had (for years) devices to track the movement/locations. There are also systems which give you alerts (over a web interface) like Door Open, Ignition On/Off, Car Stopped, Door Opened, Seat Belt On/Off bla bla with the locations and time stamps.

I actually watched my friend use the web interface in Kuwait YEARS AGO keeping track of his delivery trucks and where the drivers were taking the trucks. He has been using it for about 4 years, now.

BUT IRS 7,000 is rather cheap. Which makes me wonder - just how well does this device work? Especially when they put up that there are NO OTHER CHARGES except from the second year onwards a IRS 100 (annually) to Vodafone - That’s REALLY cheap.

BTW, the headline of the article SUCKS - “Now You Can Talk To Your Car Even After It’s Stolen”. COME ON!

India voted 7th best holiday destination (?!!)

Globetrotters and tourists from around the world are warming up to the country's people and hospitality by voting India as the seventh-best destination in the world in the recent Conde Nast Readers' Travel Awards 2010, a head of countries like Thailand, Greece, Brazil and France.

Link

Better than Brazil and France!! Oh boy. Looks like the economic crunch is worse than I thought! I would rather not go on a holiday if I couldn’t afford a good one. But that’s just me.

India scored highest for the warmth of its people and hospitality….

ROTFL!

Germany GPS ??!

About an hour back, I was at Alghanim Electronics. A Kuwaiti guy was there with his friend looking for a very specific GPS device - ‘Germany’ GPS.

He explained something. His friend explained something. The sales guy explained something. A few confused glances and about 2 minutes later, the Kuwaiti points to a box and says ‘Germany GPS’! That was the device he was looking for.

Any guesses what the box said?
