Another Pointless Study / Survey

"

The longer a person has been out of work, the greater the chances that he or she will develop a clinical case of depression, according to data from a new Gallup poll.

That 'conclusion' could be arrived at by simple logical analysis. Sure, it wouldn't have shit loads of statistics and percentages but it would still be the same conclusion. That people who are unemployed are more likely to suffer from depression and that likelihood is directly proportional to the period of unemployment.

Why would there be a need to conduct a survey or study to validate a basic logical fact?

Evidently the people at Gallup are pretty jobless themselves. Otherwise why would they be wasting their time doing this survey?
