Anna Suggests To Beat Up People Who Won’t Give Up Drinking

New Delhi:  In an exclusive interview to NDTV, Anna Hazare explains why he thinks those who drink should be beaten and humiliated in public.

Explaining how he got people in his village Ralegaon Siddhi and the surrounding areas to give up drinking, the 74-year-old Gandhian activist said, "...we will give three warnings because after all they are our people. But  after the warnings, we drag that person to the temple and make him promise that he will never drink again in his life.  Even after all this if they continued, we used to tie him in a pole near the temple and beat him."

Hmm. Probably the people in his village drink so they can tolerate him (Anna). Hum to issliye peete hain ke tumhen bardaasht kar saken.

Buddha Anna must’ve been drunk to actually think someone would respond positively to that statement. I don’t get it why he is opposed to drinking. With the type of bullshit and stunts this idiot keeps coming up with, it would be helpful for him if his followers were in an inebriated state.

If anything at all, Anna should be passing out joints to the crowd at his meetings / gatherings / rally. Not only will it be a bigger gathering, it will definitely be a peaceful one. Tolerating Anna’s nonsense would be so much easier. Want to do something for the country eh, Anna? Here is your chance.

I would like it (a lot) if someone would tie up Anna to a pole and beat him. On second thoughts – that would take too long.

Where the hell are those terrorists / assassins when you need one?!! Arrey bhai, koi hai? Iss gaandu Gandhivaadi ko goli kab maaroge?

Leaving Anna and Gandhi aside, what would you want to do to a man who comes home drunk everyday and beats up his wife and kids?

Anna is just an ordinary guy trying to solve a few problems, the way he knows will work within his village. He is not perfect...

but do check this site for an interesting read and maybe a good book, if you dont have it already..

Hello Happy.

Now, are we assuming that everyone who drinks is also going to be abusing his family?

The Taliban, Saddam uncle - they too handled the problems the best way they knew how to. If that's the only argument / defense for this idiot's idiotic ways, then not really a good argument.

Thanks for the link. Will check it out.

You are right. He is far from perfect. But he is a perfect example of 'chutiyapa'.

All noise, no sense.

Its really odd how people seem to be justifying his statement.... I had a cousin tell me that he is talking about people who make a rucus after drinking, so what he said is perfectly ok.... After all his intentions were good, as that of a "mother to her children"... That by the way how is Hazare him describes it...

I dont understand how it is perfectly ok to take law into his own hands... I dont understand how a Gandhian can resort to violence... I dont understand why people shut down any thinking when it comes to this guy now....

I hope he goes back to his shut-the-hole-in-his-face protest...

Hello BVG,

I just want him to get shot or die of hunger or something. Let's get him his statue and get this over with!

Raj, as long we do not know why Anna beats these guys, let me assume it must be for doing something utterly inhumane. For sure these alcholics can be sent for treatment.. not sure why Anna does not resort to such solutions. It is better than taking law into his own hands. If I support this entirely , then I should be also supporting the actions of Kashyaps doing honor killings... so I do see your point.

But, do you remember your own response to parents who wanted to take money for bearing a girl child ?

Let me assume it came out of your frustration with a set of people and that given a gun you would never really shoot them :)

Hello Happy,

I don't have a problem with ANYONE taking the law into their own hands.

My views on the LAW (in general) are rather well documented. :D

I really don't know WHY you thought you had to use that as an argument.

I use the LAW argument only under certain situations:

"Why don't I get to do this, why don't I get to do that, why it's ok to do it in India and not ok to do it in Kuwait"

- when I am in the middle of those type of CRAP discussions, I use the "LAW" argument. And yes, I will say it again - I don't really care about Anna or anyone else taking LAW into their own hands.

Given a gun, you THINK I would never really shoot them?? Well THINK AGAIN.

If I could get away with it, there would be a lot of people meeting their respective god(s) a hell lot sooner than scheduled. Some people do NOT deserve to live.

Piss me off enough and I probably won't even care if I would be able to get away with it or not.

When it comes to Anna - I think he is an idiot. That's pretty much it. IF you think I have a problem with him because he is taking LAW into his own hands - well you are mistaken.

Raj.. you made your point very clear... and it is good that I am sitting far away from you :)

I used that argument only to show that evey man reacts to a situation... and even Anna... but please go ahead and call him an idiot.. the only idiot who seems to make at least a few in the political circle very nervous... let some of us enjoy it while it lasts.

Happy, We are all entitled to our opinions.

You THINK he is actually making a difference by making the political parties nervous - you LIKE that - go ahead and ENJOY it.

There are people who ENJOYED and LIKED the NANO. There are people who are enjoying the 'Kolaveri Crap' song.

It's a free world (*cough). Jiss ko jo karna hai, kare.

And I am free to think for myself and form an opinion.

Socho... to kehne ko bahut kuch hai. SAMJHO to kehne ko kuch bhi nahin.
