HTC Touch Diamond - Data Connection - Auto Off

HTC Touch Diamond Angle800

Ok, I have tried and tried and I still can't figure out how to get this done. There seem to be some third party softwares with tweaks, but there are so many of them on the web.

I don't want to install one after another and then find out that it doesn't have the tweak that I am looking for. Other than that, the main reason is - I am just lazy.

The problem is - I access the web (usually my mail) from the Diamond. The Data Connection comes to life and everything works fine. When I am done with web and exit the browser, the Data Connection remains ON! Implying eating away on my battery. I have to tap the Connection Icon and then hit Disconnect, to close the connection.

There is an Auto Off for WiFi connections (thank god). Also, I can permanently disable GPRS, 3G or Edge Connections too, but that would mean I have to go and enable them each time I want use the web, and then go back and change it when I am done (in simple words - more work).

As of now, the only solution I have - other than tapping and switching off the Data Connection, is assigning functionality to Long Press - End Key. To do that, go to Start - Settings - System. Tap the Long Press End key - Icon. There select functionality to Terminate Data Connection.

That done, now, when you are done browsing the web or whatever, just hold down the End Key for a few seconds and the Data Connection will be closed.

I find it easier to do it this way than tapping on the screen and disconnecting the active connection(s) - Just my view.

If anyone finds a way to get the Auto Off working, please let me know.

To setup auto-disconnect modify the follwing registry entries:

HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings
CacheTime=60

(60 seconds before disconnect, change to suit you)

SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
(default is "~GPRS!" which is always on)

That'll save you the hassles and battery life!

Anonymous - What you need is a registry editor installed on your diamond.

I am using PHM

You can get that from

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-phm-registry-editor-v0-70.html

It will be a cab file, download it and then transfer it to your Diamond (Using bluetooth or the USB Cable or whatever).

Find the transfered file on your Diamond and then tap on it. Install it.

Then you will find this program (PHM Registry Editor) in your Diamond. Start - Programs.

Now you can scroll to the relevant entry and make the changes.

Hope this helps.
